MIXDOWN

For one of my tracks I made for my EP, my mix down was a little bit weak. Even though I sorted this mix down 2-3 times as I was not happy with it. The bass wasn’t loud enough, and the vocals wasn’t loud too. So it took me a good 4-6 times to get this perfect. Also i noticed after, the reverb on my basses were ridiculously high, and i didn’t know this as i was producing my track on headphones. So it took me having to listen to my whole track on booth speakers in the downstairs studios. Finally i got the mix down i liked and think sounds perfect. what i learnt is to always check back on better speakers to know exactly what i am listening to, to see the problems.

MASTERS

For my EP, I was originally planning to master my tracks myself and self teach myself. However I couldn’t do it. I spent weeks and weeks in the past trying to teach myself from tutorials and my tutor. However i just can’t. So i decide to write a post on social media asking if anyone could master my tracks for money. I got a lot of feed back and people asking me if i wanted them to it. But, Joe Still, contacted me and told me he would master my tracks for free, so i don’t have to pay. This helped me out a bunch and the masters sound very loud and clean. So i am very happy with this option that has been given to me.

SELF RELEASE

With my tracks, i was going to find labels to get my EP launched on. However i felt like i wanted to do a free download EP on my Soundcloud instead. This is because i was running out of time to find labels and get it to the standard they want it. Because some labels don’t like certain tracks or if your not known enough. So i wasn’t ready for that task just right yet. So making a Free Download EP, self promotion just seemed like the better option on this run.

ARTWORK

As i am the Art Director or the event. It was my job to find someone to make the artwork for our posters and the line up. I got a lot of people at the start, but they started becoming unreliable and would take a long time to reply or a long time to make one. It was a urgent job as we had everything ready. We had one which was ready to make one, but was charging so much for the logos, banners and line up. Charging nearly £150 in total! Which is completely out of our budget for something we was looking to spend £20-£50 between 4 people. So we all went together and checked out the Art and Design rooms at College, and spoke to a few of the students and offered the prize. This being, Free entry to the event, and £20. One lad took this opportunity and made us an amazing line up poster and some really cool designs for our logo!

BUDGET

At the start we didn’t have a lot of communication and conversations about the budget. We was looking at things in a completely different perspective. Our total of money was coming to nearly £2000! Andy our tutor had a meeting with our group and asked us about it. As we was really struggling. He helped us cut down that budget a hell of a lot and we are not spending nearly as enough as we were. Like for example, we had to hire different decks for Dutta, but we compromised with him and he was happy just to have the decks that were there. Which saved us a lot of money. Another example being, the poster prints. We didn’t have a clue, but Andy helped us and offered us them for free with the College department which helped us so much as we need them quick.

MC’S

Unfortunately, we had one of MC’s drop out. This is being because they couldn’t book time off work was taking a rest from it all. This was bad as we had already got the posters made and was seconds away from promotion. However we pulled it back by asking an MC last minute if they would do. As Joe was friends with him, he done us a deal as it was our first event and he knew him personally, so he didn’t charge full price, not even half!

PROMOTION

We struggled at the start as we was inches away from launching the Facebook, everyone announcing a date and getting people excited. Then came a problem we had no idea about. We was supposed to clear the artwork with Dutta’s agent before promoting. Otherwise they will get in trouble and we would get a fine! the solve this we pushed the promotion and cleared the artwork immediately but it took nearly a week! So we had to mega amounts of promotion on the first week to catch up on where we are now.
